LIASA President's Award 2007 - Western Cape Wins !!!!

Bringing another trophy home!

August has certainly been a very exciting month. Lots of activities in the Library world in SA. Most importantly, I can boast with another award.

The Western Cape has won the Association's President's Branch Award. It came home this year after a sojourn in the Free State in 2006 after the very first presentation of the award in 2005 when of course Western Cape won it!!!

I may stand at the end of a long line of siblings, take care of myself in the last session after a long week on a Friday, and so on and so on. But. I was the first winner of the LIASA SABINET Librarian of the Year Award in 2006. I am the first Western Cape Chair that are not of the original team who started up the Branch. And I am my father's first child, and first and only daughter. I am first, first, first!!!!

Now for the picture which will be posted later.

Librarian of the Year 2006 at CPUT and UCT

An article was published on my winning the Librarian of the year award in the Dec2006/Jan2007 issue of Moja! The CPUT's in-house newsletter.

UCT, my alma mater, also published a stop press article in their Monday Paper, volume 25 (27), 29 November 2006, at http://www.news.uct.ac.za/mondaypaper/archives/?id=6044.

"Darries is top title holder
UCT alumnus Fatima Darries has won this year's LIASA/Sabinet Online Librarian of the Year title.
Darries was one of 10 Library and Information Association of South Africa (LIASA) branch winners who became eligible for the national award. The Cape Peninsula University of Technology librarian was named Western Cape Branch Librarian of the year at the LIASA Western Cape annual general meeting earlier this year. She was also named branch chair, the most senior position at branch level."
