LIASA Western Cape Breakfast Meeting, 30 November 2005
I gave a presentation on the SI on 30 November 2005 at the LIASA Western Cape Breakfast meeting at the Villia Via in Gordan's Bay.
I gave some thought as to how best to report on a month's long experience in 10 minutes. I prepared an adress in which there were two points that I wanted to mention and a quote from Johnetta B. Cole's book entitled Dream your boldest dreams. I was also going to show a few pictures about the Bryn Mawr library and the campus.
I did not stick to my notes. But talked more generally about my experience, and referred the attendees here, to this blog.
I was pleasantly surprised to receive a certificate of achievement by the LIASA Western Cape Branch on my selection to the SI. At my home institution I got recognition for it from my VC and DVC in their verbal acknowledgement.
The owl as I have known is a symbol for wisdom, but what I did not know that it was symbolic of the goddess Athena, who is the goddess of wisdom in Greek mythology.
Mbag arrives
I posted an Mbag with my Summer Institute files and books I bought in the US, on 23 July 2005, the day we were supposed to fly home.
Today, 2 December, I finally have it in my possession.
Interesting that it would arrive 2 days after my presentation on the Summer Institute at the LIASA Breakfast meeting, on 30 November 2005 at the Villa Via, Gordan's Bay.
